

Lillian Madeleine Gagne was born January 31, 1925 in NY, NY during the time when her father was playing professional Hockey for the NY Knickerbockers. Her father was from Montreal and her mother from Gaspe’, Canada. The family soon returned to Ottawa Canada where Lillian attended French speaking Catholic girls school where she studied dance, drama, and voice. She loved to tell the story of her French-Canadian Lumber Jack and Native American ancestry. Lillian would have reminded you she was blessed to have been born an American in New York. After WWII Lillian moved back to USA to live with her aunt Amelia Turmel in Hazel Park, Michigan where she met and married Edward Duncan They settled in Birmingham, MI.
She volunteered for 10 years at William Beaumont Hospital, Royal Oak, Michigan. Lillian and Ed had 2 children Lisa and Mark. As a loving mother Lil tirelessly spending evenings as both girl scout and boy scout leader and all her children’s schools and activities. Lillian loved to vacation in Florida and in 1975 moved to the Florida sunshine in Boca Raton. Lillian worked for many years as a librarian for Florida Atlantic University and retired in 1989 when she relocated to West Palm Beach.
Before moving from Michigan to Florida After retiring Lillian spent her time volunteering at Good Samaritan Hospital in West Palm Beach for 20 years and a life member of the West Palm Beach, Garden Club Allamanda Circle. Each of her days was spent devoting time to her 2 granddaughters Lauren and Lyndsey. She never missed a school show or Ballet Florida performance. She enjoyed cooking for family and friends and decorating for every holiday.
Lillian is preceded in death by her father Alphonse Gagne and Mother Marguerite Normandeau, her brother Orell Gagne and Robert Gagne. She is survived by her daughter Lisa Duncan Carey, Husband Michael Carey, and granddaughters Lauren Carey of West Palm Beach, FL and Lyndsey Carey of Los Angeles, CA., her son Mark E. Duncan who lovingly cared for her each day and her Nephews Timothy Duncan and his wife Marilyn Duncan of Royal Oak MI, Danny Gagne, MI., Nieces Michele and Debbie Gagne, Cousins from the Turmel and Esembre families of MI.
