September 13,1952- May 19, 2024
Margaret Mary (“Margie”) Dee Scirrotto passed away on May 19, 2024 after a lengthy illness. A native Floridian, Margaret was born at St. Mary’s Hospital in West Palm Beach, Florida. With her parents and three siblings, she grew up on 9th Street in West Palm. A strong Irish Catholic upbringing and grounding served as influential guideposts throughout Margaret’s entire life.
Margaret attended St. Ann Catholic school, graduated from Cardinal Newman High School and obtained her bachelor’s degree in psychology at the University of Florida. Her education contributed to her early success as a dedicated Montessori teacher. In 1982, Margaret transitioned to a new career in Foundation management. For the next 40 years she administered the Frank J. Lewis Foundation managing many aspects of the organization’s giving practices.
With the luck of the Irish, on March 17,1973 Margaret met her future husband, Joseph J. Scirrotto. Married in 1975, Joe and Margaret had two daughters, Marissa and Lauren. As a family, they valued making memories through traveling together, celebrating holidays and milestones and creating lasting moments of joy. However, Margaret’s greatest joy was being Nana to Julia, Liam and Owen. She brought extra daily love to their lives along with a tenderness never to be forgotten.
Margaret was a devout Catholic, whose “faith in action” was evidenced during the 8 years she cared for her disabled husband, Joe. Her love and devotion eased Joe’s own path to eternity on November 15, 2018.
Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Anne Dee, son Matthew Scirrotto, sister Patricia Dee, brother Paul “Terry” Dee, sister-in-law Elizabeth Dee, nephew Terrance “Tad” Dee, and son-in-law Brian Ray.
She is survived by her daughter, Marissa Ray; her daughter Lauren Scirrotto and her husband Jason Garwick. She is also survived by her three adored grandchildren, Julia Elizabeth Ray, Liam John Garwick and Owen Matthew Garwick. Margaret will be lovingly remembered by her younger sister, Catherine Dee and her husband Charles Self. She will be especially missed by her brothers- and sisters-in-law, cousins, and beloved nieces and nephews.
A funeral mass will be held Wednesday, June 5th at 10am at St. Ann Catholic Church in West Palm Beach, followed by immediate internment at Our Lady Queen of Peace Cemetery, 10941 Southern Blvd, Royal Palm Beach, FL 33411.
