

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Marjorie Channer Cochrane on September 13, 2024, in Palm Beach, Florida.
She was a much beloved Palm Beach philanthropist, socialite, lifelong dedicated Republican, and Community Leader. Marjorie was born in Evanston, II and was the daughter of Earle Adare Stanton and Ethel Lee Channer. She was a graduate of Willamette, IL educational institutions and The Ogontz School for Girls in Philadelphia.
She married Edward Harding Cochrane on Dec. 3, 1955 in Palm Beach. He was an executive for General Motors and founder of Cochrane (now Schumacher) Automotive Group.
Among her lifelong interests and activities, she was a Volunteer nurse's aide at Passavant (now NorthWestern) Hospital in Chicago (1949-54). She was also Chair of The Good Samaritan Hospital Gala (1955). Chair of the residential division of the Palm Beach Red Cross Campaign (1958), Chair of the Palm Beach Polo Benefit (1959), a member of the Palm Beach Polo Ball committee (1966), Chair of the Palm Beach Round Table Gala (1967), and auxiliary Board Member for the Palm Beach Leukemia Society Gala (1968). She also loved to take care of many animals during her entire lifetime.
She continued to be active in The Colonial Dames of America, Palm Beach Chapter, the Society of the Lees of Virginia, the Junior League of Chicago, The Society of the Four Arts and the Palm Beach Republican Club.
She was a dedicated life long Episcopalian and parishioner of Bethesda By The Sea Church, a long-term member of The Everglades Club, as well as The Beach Club.
Marjorie was a devoted stepmother to her husband's two daughters, Elizabeth F. Cochrane and Susan C. Evins (deceased) and her step grandchildren and great grandchildren, Alexandra Reynolds, Sebastian Reynolds, Victoria Reynolds, (all of West Palm Beach), Samuel N. Evins, IV (New Orleans), Susan A. Evins (Atlanta), Edward C. Evans (Chicago), and Eleanor A. Evins (Tampa). She was also very proud of her beloved goddaughter, Claudia Peterson.
In addition, she leaves a large roster of close friends from every chapter of her life and her much cherished Channer and Lee relatives. She was a devoted wife and friend, known for her kind heart, sharp wit and unwavering loyalty to those she held dear.
She resided on Wells Road, Palm Beach, FL since 1958.
In lieu of flowers, Marjorie respectfully asks that her friends and family simply do a good deed for an animal or friend in need or consider a donation to Bethesda-by-the-Sea Church or Peggy Adams Animal Rescue League.
She will be interred alongside her loving husband in the Columbarium at Bethesda-by-the-Sea. Her family and friends are invited to a service at Bethesda by the Sea Church at 3 pm on Saturday, October 12, 2024. Following, there will be be a reception to celebrate her life at The Everglades Club in the Main Lounge.
