Mary Edson Smith, born in New York, was a graduate of The Spence School, Barnard College, and attended the University of Lausanne in Switzerland.
She was married to David Shiverick Smith, former U.S. Ambassador to Sweden. She was a member of The Colony Club in New York, Meadow Club and The Bathing Corporation of Southampton as well as The Everglades Club and The Bath and Tennis Club in Palm Beach.
Her husband David passed away in 2012. She is survived by three stepsons, Edward Noble Smith, David Smith Jr, Jeremy Smith and six grandchildren, and three great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at Quattlebaum Funeral home on August 15 at noon. An interment at The Church of Bethesda by the Sea in Palm Beach at a later date.
