Neil John Maune, 62, passed away on Sunday, July 16, 2023 at his home in Manalapan, Florida. He is survived by his loving wife Diana Maune, sons Thomas and William Maune, and stepsons Aben and Garrett Johnson.
Neil was born and raised on a small farm in Washington, Missouri and had four siblings, Steve Maune and JoAnn Kleekamp, and Karen Maune and Patricia Shaver (both deceased). As a young man and devout Catholic he attended the University of Notre Dame, where he played football as an offensive guard from 1979 to 1983 and was later drafted to the Dallas Cowboys.
After the NFL, Neil returned to Notre Dame to earn his law degree. After law school, Neil began his law firm in St. Louis where there were just 2 employees. Over the past 20+ years as the managing partner, he welcomed more individuals into the partnership as they grew the business to 11 offices with over 400 employees becoming a national powerhouse. Neil was always interested in creating opportunities for others and he will be missed by those that worked with him. In the many years he spent building his law practice, his mission was to stand up for the individuals that were forgotten by some of the largest corporations in the world. He proudly represented these individuals and these families like they were his own.
After law school, he moved to St. Louis where Neil met Summer and fell in love. They later married in 1992. They had two boys together, Thomas and William, whom they loved wholeheartedly. Summer and Neil enjoyed their life together, before she tragically passed away from cancer in 2018. He valued family time together and spent many summers in Destin, swimming in the water, and playing cards at night. Neil is remembered by his generous and humble spirit, his funny stories and his infectious laugh. Recently, Neil partnered with Tom and Will, his sons, to start a family business in Atlanta where they serve their community one treat at a time. Will and Tom remain focused on their father’s mission and will continue on with his legacy.
Neil was overcome with love again when he met Diana in July, 2020. They married 4 months later on November 8 in the same room where he proposed. Over the years, Neil and Diana created a loving and welcoming home in Manalapan, Florida which they shared with their boys, their two dogs, Logan and Lucy, and their many friends and family. Neil enjoyed living on the water, cheering Notre Dame football to victory, and cooking on the grill.
Neil was a faithful follower of Holy Spirit Catholic Church- Lantana, where Neil served as the Director of Finance. Additionally, he contributed to many foundations around the world, most especially, The American Heart Association, a cause that struck close to home. This year, he and Diana were to be Co-Vice Chairs for the 100th Anniversary Heart Ball and the family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in his name to the American Heart Association of Palm Beach County. https://fundraise.givesmart.com/vf/AHANeil
