I too worked with Paul at Sears in the mower shop.His mechanical skills/knowledge  were unsurpassed by any mechanic I have ever known.Mower repairs that vexed other technicians were mere enjoyable childs play for him.As Jim stated,Paul had a nickname for most everyone.Paul took great pride and usually much time in coming up with a name for you.after a few months at the shop  I I asked him why I didn't have a nickname yet.He said He was working on it. Soon after I noticed Paul glancing at me occasionally from his clean and well organized work bench as I,at my grease covered disarrayed work space, diligently hammered away on a 4 foot shaft.Slowly pushing it through a pulley.That is until the end of the shaft,which I mushroomed by repeated strikes from the employed peen hammer, reached the pulley. Proving to be now obviously waaay too wide to fit through the pulley. I stopped and stared at my mechanical mistake with the slumped shoulders of defeat as I pondered what to do next. At that moment Pauls austere voice spoke to me from across the shop saying “whattya going to do now ! Peen Head”   
Yes,my name from that point on was “Peen Head”

My wife, whom he referred to as “funny face” (she has dimples) and I (he called me Dr. Pickett) both  worked with Paul during the 80’ at Sears and Roebuck.  We spent many evenings at the airport Hilton regaled by the story’s of a different time.  A more gentler time.  He was such a peaceful happy man.  We will miss him greatly.

Mr. Paul was good neighbor to myself and my family. He was the wise man of our neighborhood, respected by all. I won't ever forget the times I sat down in his home and discussed the stories of the past as well as his love of aviation. He passed on great wisdom to myself and my family and I will always cherish it as well as his memory. Paul Alex was not only a friend, but family to me and my own family. I and my family will miss him dearly. 

Always with a smile, a fantastic story, incredible knowledge, and the love for a leisurely meal. You will forever be one of my favorite people, I feel blessed and honored to have been able to call you Gramps.
