88 years old, a longtime resident of West Palm Beach, died Thursday, January 14, 2021. Born on February 23, 1932 in Tampa, FL, Phyllis was the daughter of Patrick Joseph and Lyde Elizabeth Howley.
She was a graduate of St. Ann High School, Class of 1950, where she met her future husband, G. Earl Quattlebaum. Together they raised seven children and were married for 57 years before his passing in 2007. After high school, she worked at her father’s restaurant, Howley’s Restaurant, before entering into her lifelong vocation of being a wife and mother. As the children left the nest, Phyllis used her free time to support the YWCA where she taught swimming, water aerobics, served on the Board and started the well-known “Down South Luncheon” fundraiser. In her later years, she became involved with quilting, family poker games, and helping in the family business, Quattlebaum Funeral Home.
Phyllis is survived by seven children; Gale Q. Schiffman (husband, Steve), Gary E Quattlebaum (wife, Robin), Glenda Q. Houck, Grace Q. Rich, Greg M. Quattlebaum (wife, Julie), Gerald E. Quattlebaum (wife, Lori) and Guy E. Quattlebaum (wife, Amy); 19 Grandchildren, and 14 Great Grandchildren. Also surviving are her sisters, Katie Howley Oen and Jane Howley Fraser, her sisters-in-law, Joanie Howley and Edna Mae Beggrow ( husband, Bill) and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends may visit with the family between the hours 1:00 to 5:00 PM on Sunday, January 17, 2021 at QUATTLEBAUM FUNERAL CREMATION & EVENT CENTER, 5411 Okeechobee Blvd, West Palm Beach, FL 33417. Due to the Covid Protocols, the Funeral Mass and interment will be private for the family.
