Richard Joel Leventer, of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, was born in Brooklyn, New York, in 1930. He attended Midwood High School and graduated from the University of Pennsylvania. He served in the military for two years.
He worked for several agencies in the advertising business, including one—Prendergast, Walsh, and Leventer—in which he was a partner. He capped his career with twenty years as a vice president and circulation director for Hearst Publications.
He was an avid reader and bridge player, and enjoyed golf, bowling (once scoring a 299), and tennis. He loved to travel; he and Barbara took dozens of trips over the years, often with friends and family.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Barbara; his children: Steven (Anne Spalding) of Asheville, North Carolina; Amy (Dave Reed) of Cazenovia, New York; Lisa (Mitch Nauffts) of New York City; six grandchildren: Sarah Leventer (Frank Capogna), Billy Reed, Lizzy Reed, Peter Nauffts, Andrew Nauffts, and Ashley Leventer; and one great-granddaughter, Charlotte Capogna.
