Jim was born on May 28, 1933 in Toronto, Canada to James Franklin and Helen (Young) Stilwell. He is survived by his son, Samuel James (Tad) Stilwell Jr. and his wife, Chris, as well as his three daughters, Carol Baldwin, Kimberly Still, and Laurie Cohen and her husband, Irwin. He was the proud grandfather of eight (Katie, Kenzie, Haley, Melisa, Jamie, Jes, Stuart, and Eric) and the proud great-grandfather of five (Emma, Anne Grace, Hadley, Samuel, and Abigail).
Jim held a bachelor’s degree from Bob Jones University and a master’s of divinity degree from Concordia Theological Seminary in Illinois. He was pastor of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Crofton, Maryland for nearly 30 years, as well as a certified pastoral counselor. He shared a love of music with the love of his life, Rosie; he also was a car connoisseur, an aspiring golfer, and an avid football fan. Yet topping his list of favorite pastimes was keeping company with family and friends, delighting them with his imaginative stories, quick witted puns, and dry one-liners, all delivered in the beautiful timbre of his voice which will resonate in our hearts forever.
A memorial service will be held on February 17, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Palm Beach Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his honor to the Palm Beach County Food Bank.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.quattlebaumFH.com for the Stilwell family.
