

Sarah Murphy, a resident of Palm Beach for 45 years, died at home on Sunday, September 4th surrounded by her family. She was an adored mother, wife, grandmother and friend, loved for being true, forthright and brave. She loved to laugh, had a kind spirit and a generous loving demeanor. Sarah was devoted to her family. She cared for her husband who was severely disabled for over a decade.
Sarah was born on December 19, 1940 in Port Huron, Michigan, the youngest of two children born to Rudolph and Mary Inman. She graduated from the University of Michigan with a Bachelor of Arts in Art History. Her truest passion was reading, devouring books on all subjects, accumulating them indiscriminately. She also loved playing cards, competing in tennis tournaments, and she was a certified scuba diver. She was a devout Catholic who taught catechism and was a regular at Bible Study. She had a deep appreciation for the arts, gardens and interior design. She loved entertaining, and being around fun, funny people.
Sarah was a member of the Everglades Club, the Bath and Tennis Club, The Beach Club and the Harbor Club in Seal Harbor, Maine. She is predeceased by her husband of 52 years, Norman Murphy. She is survived by her five loving children, Elizabeth Ashley Murphy, Norman Elliott Murphy Jr., Mark Marantette Murphy, Christina Murphy Pisa, John Alexander Murphy and their spouses and children. The family wishes to thank Sarah's oncologist Dr. Neal Rothschild for his compassionate care as well as her incredibly caring and devoted nurses Sue Price and Drew Lee. Services will be held at St. Edwards Church, Palm Beach on Saturday September 10th at 11 am. In lieu of flowers please make donations to Room To Read or a charity of your choice.
