Torryn Eugene Battle
January 31, 1981 – September 30, 2021
Torryn Eugene Battle was born to the late Eugene Battle Jr. & Barbara Henry Battle on January 31, 1981. Torryn was raised in Delray Beach, FL, with his younger sister Tara.
Torryn was born again when he publicly confessed Christ Jesus as Lord and Saviour and was baptized by Reverend Dr. Michael L. McClure on January 22, 1995 at West Park Baptist Church in Delray Beach, FL. Torryn enjoyed attending the church's summer camp & as a teen, he served as a junior counselor. The kids adored him; he was known as the 'Gentle Giant'.
Always the sportsman, Torryn ran track; played varsity basketball (Carver Middle School) & varsity football (Atlantic High School); and he enjoyed weight lifting, swimming, jogging & anything athletic.
Torryn loved music. As a child, he learned to play the piano & the trumpet. He was a member of the Carver Middle School Marching Band. Torryn could easily play songs by ear without looking at the sheet music! As an adult, he taught himself to play the guitar. One of the first songs he learned to play was Redemption Song by Bob Marley.
From an early age, Torryn had a thirst for knowledge. He was an avid reader & enjoyed researching history, religion & science. Torryn loved sharing what he learned with others.
Torryn attended Atlantic High School & was dual enrolled at South Technical School for automotive technology. In 1999, Torryn graduated from high school & started working as a land surveyor. In 2003, Torryn moved to Tallahassee, FL to further his education. He attended Tallahassee Community College while continuing his work as a land surveyor. He later met Shameka Williams & his bonus son JhiShaun Hayes. On February 18, 2009, the young family welcomed a little girl, Cori Neriah Battle.
On June 27, 2011, Torryn was catastrophically injured. Medical predictions were that spinal cord injuries like Torryn's were rarely survivable. Fervent prayers went up from near & far. To help stimulate his brain, Torryn's favorite music- reggae- was played in his room 24/7. After four days, our prayers were answered. Torryn woke up. The next medical prediction was that, although his eyes were open, Torryn was in a vegetative state. But God continued to show his awesome power through Torryn. Against all odds, Torryn showed that he was aware & soon began communicating. Doctors would later find that he had no brain damage at all! Torryn would later say that the first thing he heard upon waking from the coma was Bob Marley singing "Don't worry, about a thing. `Cause every little thing, gonna be alright". Torryn's greatest joy was each moment with his baby girl Cori. They would spend hours talking, singing, reading, praying & laughing together.
Because of Torryn's trust & love for God & family, he survived for 10 years, 3 months, and 3 days. During that time, The Lord used Torryn for His ministry. So many have been impacted by Torryn's life story.
On September 30, 2021, Torryn heard The Lord's call.
"And Jesus said to him, Verily I say unto thee, Today shalt thou be with me in paradise" (Luke 23:43)
Torryn has been reunited in Heaven with his father Eugene Battle Jr.; his grandparents Israel Henry, Eugene Battle Sr., and Joyce Thompson Battle; his uncles Curtis, Claude, Jeffery, and Lorenzo Henry; and so many loved ones who went on before him.
Torryn is survived by his 12yr old daughter Cori Battle; mother Barbara Henry Battle; sister Tara Battle; 98yr old grandmother Nather Lee Johnson Henry; partner Shameka Williams; 17yr old son JhiShaun Hayes; and a host of family & friends.
A visitation for Torryn will be held Saturday, October 16, 2021 from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Quattlebaum Funeral, Cremation and Event Center, 5411 Okeechobee Blvd, West Palm Beach, FL 33417.

To Torryn’s family,
I am so very sorry for your loss of such a beautiful person. I went to middle and high school with Torryn and was saved in that very same camp the summer of 1994, encouraged by Mr. Woodrow Samuel II.
Torryn used to buy me a small plush toy for my birthday and tell me to enjoy playing with it for the day bc I’d have to give it back to him on his birthday; the next day. He was quite the character always cheering people up and making us laugh with his silly voices and stick figure drawings with their emotional faces. Man, I’m so sorry. May he Rest In Peace. - Heidi G “Chee-Kee”
