I was another longterm Lawrenceville roommate, teammate, and forever friend of Billy's. With parents living in Florida, I used to spend Thanksgivings in Rye with Evelyn, Nana and Billy. Billy was the light of their lives and he suffered under their smothering affection. Lawrenceville was his chance to get out on his own and shine: Captain of the swimming team, varsity football guard, and Cleve House President and often on the honor roll. 
I hadn't seen him for 30 years when he took a boat trip with us to the Bahamas. The ubiquitous neck towel and fun stories were a delight. I can only confirm, he was truly a one of a kind and a most loyal and trusting friend. I look forward to gathering this spring with a few his best friends at Lawrenceville and telling our best Billy stories - he's a legend.

I was one of Bill's roommates for our final two years at Lawrenceville.  We shared similar tastes in music and humor.  Bill had a wonderful sense of humor and retained a cast of characters that often emerged out of nowhere and brought hilarity to the situation.  He was not only a tough football player but quite a student of the game.  And, of course, an exceptional swimmer who had, as swimmers do, an amazing pain threshold with those torturous workouts. I went to the Lawrenceville School with Billy Wallace (a boarding school near Princeton, New Jersey). We stayed in houses with 30 plus kids in each. At Cleve House, Billy was elected house president. Our last year we were in Lodge House with fewer kids, maybe 20. Billy would perform improvised comedy sketches in the dorm rooms, with recurring improvised characters ... he was brilliant ... a Robin Williams in the making, if he wanted to be. He was a varsity swimmer specializing in the butterfly. I was happy to get to spend some time with Billy, truly a unique person.

I have known Bill from both Lawrenceville and UNC and occasionally throughout the years. Always joyful, always enthusiastic and always a unique delight to be with. My world and anybody who knew him is not as bright as it once was with his loss, but his beautiful infectious smile and laugh will forever be burned into my memory. Bill was one of the rare joys that make life just so much more interesting and fun.
