
Julie was born to James and Grace Battaglia in Rochester, NY on April 2, 1951. She graduated from Cardinal Mooney High School in 1969. After graduating, she worked at both New York Telephone Company and Rochester Telephone Company for 11 years before starting a family.
Julie started dating Thomas Winkler sophomore year in high school in 1967 and the high school sweethearts were married on September 4, 1971. Thom and Julie made Buffalo, NY their first home while Thom attended SUNY Buffalo, eventually settling into their permanent residence in Fairport, NY. In 2008 they became snowbirds, splitting their time between Florida and New York. Then, in 2014, making the decision to move permanently to Windermere, FL. Deeply in love and inseparable, they would actively seek out adventures and looked forward to a long and happy life together.
Family was so important to Julie. She was known for being incredibly passionate about making time to spend with her family. Whether going up to NY for the summer to visit with her mom and sisters, to attending all her grandson's sporting and school events, to flying across country to be there for the birth of her 3rd grandchild.
Julie loved to cook, host parties, and entertain. She loved cruising with Thom on Oceania Cruises and with her daughter's family on Disney Cruise Line. In addition to cruising, Julie loved to travel the world with Thom. Especially during the time when they lived in England and China.
Julie was a giving, caring and selfless soul. She had a big heart and would do anything for anyone.
Julie was predeceased by her father James R. Battaglia and her in-laws, Joseph A. and Mary R. Winkler. Survived by her devoted husband of 50 years, Thomas Winkler; adoring children, Michelle (Mike) Eppink and Matthew (Trang Nguyen) Winkler; treasured grandchildren, Kaiden Eppink, Ryan Winkler, and Albert Winkler; caring mother, Grace Battaglia; loving sisters, Cathy (Bill) D'Anza and Jeannie (Dave) Baxter: cherished nieces and nephews, Jim (Kasia) D'Anza, Jennifer Soike, Michael (Elizabeth) Baxter and Anna Baxter: five surviving Winkler siblings; and several, great nieces and nephews, cousins, good friends and neighbors.
A funeral mass will be held at the Church of the Resurrection, 63 Mason Rd, Fairport, NY on Wednesday, June 29, 2022 at 10:00am. For those that are unable to attend in person, the service will be livestreamed and can be viewed by visiting Church of the Resurrection, Fairport - YouTube. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Julie's name to Humane Society of Greater Rochester.
