Janet (Jan) Louisa Meyers, a beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend, passed away peacefully on July 9, 2025, at the age of 85. Born on July 29, 1939, in Warsaw, NY, Jan was a 1957 graduate of Arcade Central High School. After graduating, she studied at the Harper Method School of Beauty in Rochester, NY, and spent many cherished years working alongside her mother at Meyers Beauty Shop in Arcade. Jan later found her calling in healthcare, serving for many years as an Admissions Clerk at Wyoming County Community Hospital, where her warm smile and kind spirit welcomed countless patients and families.
Driven by a passion for helping others, Jan returned to school later in life and proudly earned her Bachelor of Science in Social Work from Roberts Wesleyan College, graduating cum laude in 1995—a testament to her dedication, intellect, and perseverance. This passion stayed with Jan, her entire life always looking to help those around her.
Outside of her professional life, Jan was an incredibly talented and generous crocheter. She poured love into every stitch of the afghans, scarves and shawls she made, gifting them to her family and friends. Each piece reflected her creativity, gift of patience, and the warmth she brought to everyone around her.
Jan will be remembered for her deep compassion and the quiet but powerful ways she cared for those in her life. Her legacy of love, service, and handmade beauty will live on through the many lives she touched. She is survived by her children, Andrew F. (Melissa) Gilbert, Shelly L. (Kevin) Chasey and Larry R. (Kimberly) Standish; her grandchildren, Alea (Ray) Jenkins, Brandon (Kelsey) Gilbert, Ashley Thorp, Austin (Autumn) Thorp, Taylor (Luke) Brisbin, Benjamin (McKenna Ford) Chasey, Natalie Standish, Ian Standish and Alex Standish; her great-grandchildren, Caiden, Olivia and Ryland.
