Our mom was a stay-at-home mother until my sisters and I started school. She then went to work for the West Seneca school system cafeterias and eventually became a cook. She loved working for the schools. She helped create and design the free breakfast program, because she saw children coming to school hungry.
After she retired, she worked part-time for Tops Supermarkets in the deli. She also enjoyed her work there.
Our mom had a tremendous love of all animals. She frequently took in stray cats. We remember as children the squirrels would eat peanuts right out of her hand and the many variety of birds who would flock to the always-full feeders.
In her latest home, she put out salt licks and corn for the deer. We had so much joy watching the beautiful orioles eating the jelly and oranges right next to the hummingbirds sipping their nectar. We would sit in her dining room and watch the foxes, raccoons, squirrels and chipmunks who frequented her yard for treats.
Her current love her stray cat, Tuffy. He is 19 years old and stayed at our mom's side while she was ill. Kevin, her step grandson, and our hero, is going to take care of him.
If you would like to honor this special mom, please make donations to the West Seneca SPCA!
