Uncle Russ was my mother’s (June Bergan) younger brother and she told us some stories of their adventures together. We moved away from West Seneca when my brother Mike Brooker and I were about 7 and 6 respectively, but visited “the farm” at least yearly when growing up. I have very fond memories of Russ — he was always happy and in a good mood. Worked hard on the farm, too! My sister, Melissa Brooker, and I visited Russ and Elsie several years ago. I had asked Russ for some barn wood, which he cut up for me — what a task! We will miss him.

I have many memories of Uncle Russ. I spent many happy days on the Bergan dairy farm, working when I was old enough, a lot of playing too. Uncle Russ indulged my cousin Tom Miller and I, supplied us with firecrackers for games. He always worked hard, but was always ready for some fun.

He lived life with gusto, was a big follower of country music and knew many of the stars personally. He was a photograph buff and had photo albums of them. He and Aunt Elsie never had kids but took us nieces and nephews under their wing and showed us their love. 98 years of a life well lived.
