Barbara was born to Lewie Alvin Grimm and Alice Rose Rodgers on July 9, 1942 in Harrison, Nebraska. She was the 2nd oldest of five children. When Barbara was ten years old, she and her family were baptized into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Lance Creek Wyoming. Later they moved to Lusk Wyoming, Harrison Nebraska, and then to Portland Oregon where she graduated from Reynolds High School in 1960. She married James Rolland Burwell on July 7, 1962 in Portland, Oregon. Together they had 6 children (Scott, Rebecca, Jeff, Douglas, Andrew, Allyson). Barbara was a stay-at-home mother until her kids were older. She later separated from her husband and worked for Child and Family Services for the State of Utah which is where she retired. Barbara served in many church callings throughout her life. She especially loved being a Temple Worker in the South Jordan Temple. In 2010 Barbara served a full-time mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to the Philippines Quezon City Mission. She later served two more full-time missions to Chicago, Illinois and Salt Lake City Headquarters Mission. She continued her service as a service missionary up until the time she passed away.
Barbara loved daisies and always said they made her happy. She was an avid reader and a continuous learner. Throughout her life she took voice lessons, art lesson and joined Toast Masters. She loved her family more than anything. She spent her whole life supporting and loving them. After she retired, she spent most of her time visiting and living with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was lovingly known as Grams and made sure to give everyone a hug and a kiss when she saw them. She was known for her kindness and honesty.
Barbara is preceded in death by her son Douglas (JoBeth). She is survived by her sisters Nancy and DeLoris, and her brothers Garry and Rick. She is also survived by her children Scott (Tonya), Rebecca (Rob), Jeff, Andrew (Ingrid), and Allyson (Thayne). She leaves behind 22 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
