Bertha was born December 25, 1926 in South Jordan, Utah. She was the fourth of four daughters to Felix Bogenschutz and Sophie Danzer Bogenschutz in South Jordan, Utah. She also had four younger brothers; they all lived on the farm. Mom would often say how hard they worked in the beet fields. She shared how her mother would kill a chicken, skin it, and feather it, then cook it each Sunday for dinner. She also said how they never went hungry. In the summertime they would make jello and put it in the stream to set up and in the winter they would make ice cream out of snow. She wasn’t very old when their house burned down and told of how they just watched it burn. Then she recalled how the ward members came and helped them rebuild. She was so impressed that they would help, because “they were not members.”
Mom was not afraid of hard work, and she instilled that in her children. She spent many years loving and caring for her husband Darrell, whom she married on March 20, 1946, in the Salt Lake Temple. They never had a reception at that time. Her husband passed away October 30, 2014.
She is survived by her Children: Darrell B and Susan Petersen, George B and Connie Petersen, Patty and Ken Saxton, Annette and Russ Bracken, Lynnette an Eddie Ward; Grandchildren: 13; Great Grandchildren: 32; Great-Great Grandchildren: 3.
Services will be held Monday, July 19, 2021 at 9:00 AM at Valley View Funeral Home 4335 West 4100 South, West Valley City, Utah. She will be laid to rest next to her husband in the Valley View Memorial Park Deseret Garden.
