

Born on November 25, 1930, in Imo, Arkansas, she spent most of her years in West Valley City, Utah. Betty was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. She was the proud mother of one daughter, Elaine, a loving grandmother to three grandchildren: Joey, Michelle and her husband Paul, and Sherida and her husband Beau. She was also a cherished great-grandmother to 10 great-grandchildren Tyrel and his wife Tiffany, Caden, Lucas, Sebastian and his wife, Casey, Josh and his wife Heather, Alex, Braydon, Brook and her husband Bobby, Katie and her husband Paul, and Chris and 16 great-great-grandchildren, and embraced the upcoming arrival of her seventh great-great-grandchild this December. Betty is survived by her younger sister, Wilma, and younger brother, Doug and his wife Peggy, along with the memories of her husband, Ardith “Bill” Bowden and her two older brothers, Louis and Junior, who predeceased her.
Betty was a vibrant spirit, known for her captivating personality and infectious sense of humor. She loved to keep those around her on their toes, often throwing playful jabs at her daughter's boyfriends when they came to pick Elaine up for dates. Her home was a haven of warmth, where she made sure everyone felt welcomed and well-fed, insisting that no one left her house without a soda or a meal. An avid golfer, Betty accumulated numerous awards, including the title of club champion, which she wore with pride. She enjoyed spending her time golfing, boating, and fishing, often sharing these passions with her family. Betty had a particular love for the music of Johnny Cash and Frank Sinatra, and she could often be found watching her favorite TV shows, such as Walker Texas Ranger, Family Feud, and old westerns. Her favorite sayings, like “Pull your horns in” and “Don’t make me pull your ears,” were often shared to keep her family grounded and in check, a testament to her caring and loving nature. Betty's genuine warmth and humor left a lasting impact on all who knew her, and her legacy of love will be cherished by her family and friends for generations to come.
Services will be August 28, 2024 at Valley View Memorial Park and Funeral Home, 4335 W 4100 S, West Valley City, Utah, 84120. A viewing will be held from 11-11:45 am with services following at 12 pm. Afterwards, family and friends are invited to attend a graveside service at the same location and then a family luncheon will be provided at a different location.
