and his beloved wife, Afton Lothiel Mayberry Yingling. He is survived by 2 sisters Laura Nelson

(Amy), Ruth (Alberto) Campos and Jarimy (Sara), son-in law Bruce Johnson, 41 grandchildren

Billy’s life began on December 22, 1936 in Wendell, Idaho. He grew up on a farm near his
Ruddles grandparents. His life was full of adventures when he was small. At the age of 11 he
converted to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and was a faithful member for the
rest of his life. His decision to join the church changed everything for Billy.
Billy graduated from High School in North Bend, Oregon and went to BYU where he studied
Physical Education. While in Provo he met Afton Mayberry. She became the love of his life and
they married in the Salt Lake Temple June 10, 1957. Billy finished up his degree at BYU
and Marie was born in Provo that year. He took a job as a Physical Education teacher and
wrestling coach in Prineville, Oregon. His teams and individual wrestlers went on to become
State Champions. Kirt was born while they lived in Prineville. Always looking for adventure, Billy
and Afton moved from Oregon to Alaska where he continued to coach wrestling. It was during
this time that Billy earned his Masters Degree from the University of Oregon. They would drive
down from Alaska every summer to Oregon. Carie was born one August while they were in
Eugene before returning to Alaska. After completing his degree he accepted a position in
Triangle Lake Oregon. Rocky joined their family while living in Triangle Lake and Eli was born
while they lived in Drain, Oregon. Billy and Afton then felt impressed to move with their young
family of 5 children, without a job to Salt Lake City. This move required a lot of faith, fasting and
prayer, but eventually Billy was hired by Salt Lake School District where he worked until the end
of his career. While living in Salt Lake Johnie, Ruth and Jarimy were born.
Billy loved all things chocolate, especially chocolate raspberry milkshakes. He loved dancing
with Afton and going to all-night drive-in movies. He enjoyed Elivs Presley’s music and
westerns. He loved sharing an ice cream bar with his grandchildren from his stocked freezer.
He was a builder. He loved working with his hands, raising animals and gardens, building and
remodeling houses and woodworking. Most importantly, Billy loved the gospel of Jesus Christ.
He served in several Bishoprics, as a Temple Ordinance worker, served a mission teaching
English to Spanish speakers, and as a faithful and diligent Home teacher. Billy and Afton
developed a love of genealogy work when they were dating and spent many years researching
and extending their family history. He had faith in repentance, forgiveness and reconciliation.
He tenderly cared for his beloved Afton as she suffered from Alzheimer’s disease. His family
will miss him, but are grateful he is no longer in pain and has rejoined Afton.
The family is particularly grateful to Jarimy and Sara Yingling and their children for the tender
loving care they showed to Billy as they accepted him into their home after Afton passed away 5
years ago.
