Blaine O. Smith, 78, beloved husband, father and grandfather, passed away on October 7, 2014, after a valiant fight with Alzheimer's disease. He was born on March 15, 1936 in Park City, Utah and is the son of George and Lila Smith. Blaine graduated from West High School in Salt Lake City and he went on to serve in the United States Air Force. Upon his return from active military service, he went on to earn his Bachelor’s of Science degree from the University of Utah. In 1956, he married his sweetheart Margie Graham, and they were later sealed in the Salt Lake City Temple. Blaine was a long-time resident of Taylorsville, Utah, where he served on the City Planning Commission. He spent his career in the hardware industry, where he worked for Salt Lake Hardware Company and in later years managed True Value Hardware in Park City. His many years spent in the hardware industry cultivated a passion for antique tools and appliances, of which he was an avid collector. In addition, he was a keen student of United States and world history. He was an avid BYU fan and he enjoyed hunting, fishing and golf.
Always willing and eager to lend his time and energy to assist others, Blaine will long be remembered for his kind neighborly spirit. He generously served as a handyman on call and during the long winter months he could always be found manning his snow blower in support of the elderly and the widowed. He leaves behind his beloved wife Margie; his daughters Linda (Greg) Mitchell, Carri, his brother and sisters Beverly, Bob and Shirley. Blaine has five beloved grandchildren, Lindsey, Whitney, Jordan, Lauren and Chase and three great grandchildren, Lilly, Parker and Buzz. He was preceded in death by his parents, his son David and sister Verna.
