Our beloved mother, Carol Coates Rasmussen, was reunited with her loving husband, Thoral Leon Rasmussen on March 22, 2018. She was born on November 11, 1933 in Provo, Utah to Lee Z. Coates and Anita Harvey Coates, the 2nd of 7 children. She married Dad on December 7, 1950, and was sealed to him in the Salt Lake Temple on February 19, 1952.
Carol was preceded in death by her husband; parents; siblings, LeeAnne Daines, Lyle Coates, Jerry Coates, David Coates, and many beloved in-laws.
Survived by her children, Gail & Mike Sylvester, Gary & Pam Rasmussen, & DeAnn Rasmussen; 9 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, & 1 great great grandchild; sisters Ruth Roggman, Linda (Orvil) McKenzie, sister-in-law Janice Coates, brother-in-law David Daines, and cherished nieces & nephews.
She was an active and involved member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and touched many lives through her service, both in church and the community. She loved working in the Young Women’s organization and treated the girls as if they were her own. Mom spent 20+ years doing genealogy extraction, and then worked in the Jordan River Temple with Dad for several years.
She was very proud of the accomplishments of her family and did her best to support them all at their concerts, plays, games, birthdays, and other events. As her sister Linda put it, “You have been the glue that has held our family together over the years.” She truly loved her family.
She loved the mountains (especially Fish Lake), long drives, traveling on Dad’s business trips and exploring new places with him, working in her garden, and reading books.
She was a caregiver to many and felt that was one of her life callings. Dad always bragged about her incredible budgeting skills. Among her many talents, she was an excellent seamstress, crocheter, quilter, artist, cook, gardener, and devoted wife, mom, grandma, and homemaker. She was loved by all who knew her.
Everyone always told her she had a beautiful smile, and she did! She endured the pain and suffering of arthritis for many years and very seldom, if ever, complained about it.
We would like to thank the many caregivers at IMC and Legacy in Taylorsville for their tender loving care during the last several weeks. We truly appreciate it.
