Carolina Jesusa Strandgard
September 15, 1937 – April 8, 2019
Our beloved mother and grandmother Carolina, passed away at her home on April 8, 2019, surrounded by her family. Carolina was born on September 15, 1937 in Edna, TX, the oldest child to Caroline Gutierrez and Alfredo Martinez.
After graduating from Roy Miller High School, Carolina joined the United States Army as a WAC secretary. She was also stationed in Germany helping orphanages rebuild after the war. While in the Army, Carolina discovered her love for softball, playing left field for the WAC softball team. During her time in the service she met and married her husband David Richard Strandgard Sr., together they had three children: David Jr., Sandra Marie and Donnie. They later divorced and she raised three children as a single mother. Carolina worked and retired from Abbott Critical Care after 22 years. Carolina was a devout Catholic and member of Mary's Helpers with St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, she enjoyed taking the Eucharist to church members unable to attend services. She lived a life of service, Carolina was often found praying the Rosary for the sick, her family, and anyone else needing prayers.
Taking care of her family was her top priority. Even after she passed she was still providing us with ease and comfort by making her final arrangements. Our loving mother taught us children to work hard, love our families, and instilled many other values in us. She was an amazing grandma and great-grandma to her grandchildren, and together they enjoyed their "Arctic Circle experiences". We will continue watching NCIS, enjoy chocolate donuts and coffee on Sundays, and dining at Taco Bell and KFC in her memory. Survived by her children: David Jr. (Elda) Strandgard; Sandra (Arron) Hansen; Donald (Leslie) Strandgard, 4 grandchildren: Parish Bushnell, Chantal, Joseph, and Nicholas Strandgard; 11 great-grandchildren with one due in May. Also survived by her two sisters: Rosa (Eloy) Gonzales and Lina Abrego.
Preceded in death by her parents, sister Sophie Soto, and her husband David Sr.
The family would like to thank Millcreek Hospice Services, especially her nurse Angela, CNA Gloria, case worker Sarah, and Chaplain Carrie for all their loving care of our mom. A special thanks to all of our mother's dear friends from St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. Most importantly, thank you to our sister Sandra for the care and love she gave to our mother as her caregiver.
