

1924 - 2014
We lost another member of the greatest generation and he will be surely missed. Charles Blair Butters passed away in the early morning hours on November 14, 2014 at age 90. He was born in Morgan, Utah on June 25th 1924, to Parley and Vernocia Butters.
Everyone who knew “Chuck” loved his radiant personality and warmth. Whether it be the employee at the grocery store or the hospital nurses who cared for him, he genuinely loved the people he encountered throughout his life and would get caught up in lively conversation with those around him.
After enduring through the depression, Chuck felt the need to help out in the war effort and joined up with the Navy. He was known for demonstrating great strength through his years during WWII earning 6 Battle Stars in some of the largest conflicts in the Pacific Theater including Iwo Jima, Okinawa and Guadalcanal.
Following the war, Chuck was employed for over 35 years as a long haul truck driver eventually earning a three million miler safety award. It seemed he never tired of the road. On Family vacations he would pack up the truck and camper and
along with his family visit many parts of the western states.
Chuck loved spending time with his friends and family, and always welcomed them over on Sunday’s while he sat in his favorite blue chair.
He also expressed gratitude for his wife, family and the good Lord, and brought laughter and beautiful memories into his home. He was filled with wisdom and loved offering good advice to his family, friends and anyone who would listen. “Never let desire override good judgment.”
Chuck is survived by his wife of 57 years, Thelma Leigh Butters and his four sons, Larry, Lynn (Kathleen) Kenneth (Victoria) and David (Raelynn). He has nine grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday November 19, 2014, at the Valley View Mortuary, 4335 West 4100 South, West Valley City at 12:00 pm. Friends may visit with the family on Tuesday evening at Valley View Mortuary, from 6:00pm until 8:00pm and prior to the funeral service from 11:00 am to 11:45 am.
Interment: Valley View Memorial Park.
