“Don’t cry because it’s over, smile because it happened” ~ Dr. Seuss
It is with a heavy heart that we bid farewell to our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, Dana Kent Fowler. He passed away in Salt Lake City, Utah following a valiant battle with cancer on December 29, 2019 surrounded by his loving wife and daughters.
Dana was born on July 11, 1959 in Pocatello, Idaho to Alfred Charles and Margaret Viola (Candland) Fowler. He graduated from Skyline High School, Idaho Falls, Idaho in 1977, after which he immediately joined the Navy as a sonar operator and repair technician. Dana leveraged the education and experience received during his six years serving our country into a successful career in the private sector.
Dana’s favorite pastime was visiting with family especially his daughters and grandchildren. He enjoyed various family gatherings such as the annual backyard crab boils, camping trips, and holidays where he could tease everyone and tell long and terrible jokes. Dana also found pleasure in riding motorcycles, advancing his Kung-Fu mastery, building models, beer brewing, listening to records, swimming in his pool, reading books and rubber duckies.
He is survived by his loving wife, Cynthia Maria (Sanchez) Vigil; children: Juree (Lynn) Burton, Melissa (Zachary) Draper, Benjamin (Rebecca) Vigil, Andrew Vigil, Danielle (Raymond) Velasquez, Rachelle Vigil and her partner Steven Seals; siblings: Greg (Connie) Fowler and Debbie (Gary) Hagen; 10 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, Penny the Corgi and Spike the snake. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, grandparents, James Earl and Viola Nellie Candland, Nester and Goldie Lucille Fowler; pets, Samantha, MuttLee and Maggie.
The family would like to express our deepest gratitude and appreciation for the tireless efforts of the Utah Cancer Specialist team. Doctor Richard Frame never failed to show warmth and compassion towards Dana and his family. The entire oncology staff was always there to support us in any way possible. Also, we would like to express our appreciation to the medical staff at Huntsman Cancer Hospital during his final days.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 11, 2020 at 2:00 pm at Valley View Funeral Home, 4335 West 4100 South, West Valley City, Utah 84120; followed by a celebration of life.
In lieu of flowers please send donations to Utah Cancer Foundation, http://utahcancerfoundation.org/giving.htm or call 801-270-2232.
“Don’t remember me with sadness. Don’t remember me with tears. Remember all the laughter, we’ve shared throughout the years. Now I am contented that my life it was worthwhile. Knowing as I passed along the way I made somebody smile. When you are walking down the street and you’ve got me on your mind. I’m walking in your footsteps only half a step behind. So please don’t be unhappy just because I’m out of sight. Remember that I’m with you morning, noon and night.” ~ James Edward
