Shortly after graduating high school David Joined the army in the infantry division shooting Howitzer cannons. After completing his service he went on to serve his mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Samoa, where he would later in life reunite with his wife Siato. David loved to fly, and would later learn to fly and leave his troubles on the ground. His love of flying led him to his long career of 35 years working for Western/Delta Airlines, leaving his family business in Las Vegas, Nevada. After retiring he spent his days enjoying his time with his family and friends.
David is survived by his children Michael (Yolanda) Hammond, Sina (Tony) Papas, Delbert (Ashly) Hammond , Bryon (Jenika)Hammond, Rebecca Stewart, and Patricia (Boyd) Otteson and 13 grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents Merrill and Sarah Hammond; His wife Siato Hammond; brothers Richard Hammond and Milton Hammond; and his sisters Cleta Whipple and Cleora Bates
