David Ernest Ottley Our Beloved father, grandfather, & friend, Dave Ottley, 78, of Salt Lake City, Utah, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on February 19, 2024. He was born on May 20, 1945, in Salt Lake City, to Ernest Arthur Ottley and Evelyn Jean Lovell Ottley. Dave was known for his quick wit and love for jokes, even through his final days. He was a devoted Utah Jazz fan who rarely missed watching a game. His family, including his children and grandchildren, brought him immense joy, and he had a special place in his heart for animals. He proudly served in the US Navy during the Vietnam War and later found fulfillment through his work with Veterans at the VA Hospital. A Hillcrest High School graduate, Dave furthered his education at the University of Utah where he was certified as a Substance Abuse Counselor. He had a successful career that included serving as a Reserve Officer for Murray City Police Department, working at the Chevron Refinery, and retired from the VA Hospital. He married Lola Velasquez, who brought three beautiful children into his life, the youngest of which he was blessed to adopt. Dave later married Charlette Osborne who brought an additional four beautiful children into his life. Together, Charlotte and Dave welcomed his last two beautiful children, Caleb and Abigayle. He loved, adored, and was so proud of all nine of his children. A Bible-believing Jesus follower, Dave found solace in his faith. He had the heart of a servant and it brought him an abundance of joy and happiness to be of service to others, in any way he could, whenever a need arose. In his free time, he enjoyed listening to the police scanner, catching up with friends on Facebook, and bringing those around him joy and laughter. He enjoyed traveling, especially to see family and loved ones. Spending time with his kids and grandchildren is where he found his greatest joy. Dave is survived by his children Jessie Buckland, Caleb Ottley, Abigayle (Collin) Jones, Brian (Arlene) Butler, Linda Williams, Stacey (Justin) Christensen, Misty (David) Caruso, Matthew Sherwood, Josh (Candice) Osborne, 20 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and 8 great-great-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by his parents, son-in-law Rick Buckland, and his beloved kitty of many years “BC.”
Special thanks to Connor & Caliesa, dad's wonderful neighbors of many years who were always there for him. We are forever grateful for their friendship to our father.
A Celebration of Life Open House will be held on Saturday, May 4, 2024 from 1:00 PM-4:00 PM at Murray Park 465 E Parkside Drive, Murray, Utah 84107 (Pavillion 3).
