

Dennis Stoddard McMurdie, age 74, passed into his parents arms, September 29, 2013, in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was born August 16, 1939 in Logan, Utah to Neil Hansen McMurdie and Eva Riggs Stoddard McMurdie. Dennis attended Salinas (CA) High School and had the opportunity to become a Foreign Exchange Student at Kings High in New Zealand. Dennis served an LDS mission in Old Mexico and the Spanish American Missions. Upon his return he married Ruth Blanchard, December 27, 1962 in the Logan LDS Temple.
Dennis attended BYU and graduated from the U of U with Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees.
Dennis traveled the world as a renowned geologist, working in the oil, geothermal, and mining industry. He was active in the LDS church serving as a Seven President of Seventy, Bishop Counselor, Bishop and in the youth programs. Dennis shared his love of life, books and rocks with his family and Jr. High students. Ever the geologist, he will now continue looking for that one last well or the latest oilfield breakthrough. He will be missed by family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth, four children, Neil DeLoy McMurdie, Christina Lillian Williams, Celeste (Joseph) Smith and Russell Erick (Megan) McMurdie, fourteen grandchildren, soon to be great grandchild and sister, LaDona (Dave) Reynolds. Preceded in death by his parents.
Services will be Friday, October 4, 2013 at 11:00 am at the Jordon North 1st Ward, 3900 South 4000 West, West Valley City, Utah. The family will receive friends Thursday, October 3, 2013 from 6-8 pm at the Valley View Funeral Home, 4335 West 4100 South, West Valley City, Utah and 1 hour prior on Friday at the church. Interment will be held at the Wellsville Cemetery, Wellsville, Utah @ approx. 3:00 pm on Friday, October 4, 2013.
