West Valley - Desmond Hammond 81, passed away Thursday, February 17, 2011. He was born on July 23, 1929 in Grimsby England to Frank Hammond and Florence Hutson. Desmond served an LDS mission to the East Central States. He served in the British army. He married Wendy Marion Priestley June 01, 1963 in Grimsby England. Their marriage was later solemnized in the London Temple. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he served in many callings and was ordained a High Priest. Desmond started working when he was 16yrs old. He retired from Natter Mfg. in West Jordon. He later served faithfully as a temple worker at the Jordon River Temple and as a volunteer at the Pasta Plant for 13 years. He loved to read and study the words of the prophets. He enjoyed supporting his grandchildren in their activities, and was thrilled to see his oldest grandson serve an LDS mission. He is survived by his children Paul (Peggy), Diane; 6 grandchildren Scott, Jill, Joshua, Kyle, Monét and Durrant. Also surviving are siblings: Doug Hammond, Roy Hammond, Joan Thorley. He was preceded in death by his sweetheart Wendy Priestley, parents, Frank and Florence Hammond, brother and sisters, Joyce, Bob, Elsie and Enid. We express thanks to the staff at the Beehive House.
Funeral services will be held, February 21, 2011 at 11:00 am at Magna East Stake Center, 2875 South 8000 West. Family and friends may call on February 20, 2011 from 6 to 8 p.m at Valley View, 4335 West 4100 South West Valley City and on February 21, 2011 from 10:00am to 10:45am prior to services. Interment: Valley View Memorial Park.
