Dywayne was born in Santa Fe, New Mexico. He passed away Jan. 4, in Henderson, Nevada.
Dywayne is the son of Stella Smiley Curtis and was the third of five siblings. He was the father of one
son, Darrius Jordan Martin.
Dywayne graduated from Taylorsville High School in 2000, as well as graduating from the University of
Phoenix with an associate degree in business in 2009. He was last employed at Equinox Gold
Corporation as a Water Treatment Plant Operator.
Dywayne lived his life to the fullest, meeting many people along the way. While he made many friends,
only a lucky few were able to experience the more fulfilling parts of his journey. His favorite pastimes
were hanging out with his family, barbecuing, traveling, watching sports, attending concerts, meeting
celebrities/musical artists, anything socially engaging. He had a love for all genres of music, notably
“gangsta” rap, country and smooth sounds playing on Sunday Night Slow Jams. He enjoyed watching
reruns of old movies and shows; 90210 and Sex & the City being a couple of his favorites. Some other
favorites were the L.A. Lakers, Atlanta Falcons, So So Def Records, DPG, Native Lifestyle, and more.
Dywayne is survived by his mother Stella of Rock Point, Arizona; son Darrius of Salt Lake City, Utah;
sisters Jamie (Armando Hernandez) of Salt Lake City, Utah, and Patience of Ogden, Utah; brother
Dewayne “DJ” (Teresa Barela) of Salt Lake City, Utah, six nephews, five nieces, three great-nieces, and significant other, Christiane Slowman.
Dywayne is proceeded in death by his stepfather, Verne Curtis; older brother “Nate” Dan; grandfathers
Dan Smiley & Joe Begay; grandmothers Ginger Shirley Smiley & Amelia Goldtooth Begay; aunt Nellie
Tapaha; and father Pascal Martin.
