Fred Ervin Brumble, age 78, of West Valley City, Utah, passed away peacefully on June 7, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.
Fred was born on December 4, 1947, in Gooding, Idaho, to Howard Joseph Brumble and Helen LaPreal Jones. He graduated from Meridian High School and on July 8, 1966, married the love of his life, LaRue Golightly, in Meridian, Idaho. A few years later, their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. Fred was an active, lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served as a scout leader, bishop, and served a senior mission with LaRue, all experiences he cherished for the daily opportunity it gave him to serve others.
Family was everything to Fred. He loved LaRue fiercely and they remained inseparable until his final breath. He cherished his children and grandchildren, teaching them by example the value of hard work and the supreme importance of honesty. He was the first one up each day, ready to greet the sunrise, lead the first hike, and embrace whatever adventure lay ahead. Fred loved hiking, exploring, camping, and four-wheeling. A passionate lover of history, many of his outings centered on locating ancient ruins or significant historical sites. He traveled extensively, both near and far, but found the greatest joy in sharing those experiences with his family. To be in Fred’s presence was to feel unconditionally loved and accepted—he lived as a true example of Christlike love.
Fred grew up on a farm but did not pursue that life. He deeply appreciated his roots, however, and when LaRue’s father sold his farm, Fred inherited an old John Deere tractor. He fully restored it to factory-fresh condition, built it its own garage, and loved showing it to anyone interested and giving rides around the block to his family and the neighborhood kids.
By profession, Fred was a dedicated accountant who took great pride in his work. His children have followed in his footsteps in various ways, a source of deep satisfaction for him.
Fred often remarked that time was moving too fast. Those who loved him wholeheartedly agree. We’re comforted by his testimony to us that, through Jesus Christ we can be reunited eternally. Though his time here has ended, the legacy of his unconditional love, strong example, and joyful spirit will continue in the hearts of his family and all who knew him.
Fred is survived by his loving wife, LaRue Brumble; his children, Michael (Kristine) Brumble, Laura (Abel) Nagy, Mat (Tara) Brumble, Lee Brumble, Amee (Jared) Kent, and Jenny (Ryan) Dunn; siblings Anita (Reed) Waters, Pam Larsen, and Lisa (Brendon) Johnson; 15 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Helen Brumble; brothers Dick and Evan Brumble; grandson Cooper Nagy; and great-grandson Hudson Nagy.
Services will be held at the Ridgeland Ward Building, 4251 South 4800 West, West Valley City, UT 84120. A visitation will take place on Friday, June 12th from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 13th at 11:00 AM, with a brief visitation beforehand beginning at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow at Valley View Memorial Park in West Valley City, Utah.
