Gary D. Pilcher age 89, passed away peacefully at his home August 8,2016. He was born May 3, 1927 in Gilmer,Texas to Nathan and Mamie Carton Pilcher. Shortly after graduating from Gilmer High School, he moved to Salt Lake City, Utah were he lived most his life. Gary married Donna Sturzenegger in Salt Lake City, Utah, May 1949. They had nine children together then later divorced.
Gary worked for the Utah Pipe Trades Local #57 for 25 years. In his pastime he enjoyed many hobbies such as his love for animals. You name it, he loved it! (longhorn cattle, any and all stray cats and dogs, chickens, pigs and geese) and if he couldn’t take care of them, he sure as hell had a kid or two that did! Like Gary, all of his kids inherited the same compassion and love for animals. Gary also enjoyed collecting old cars, he was always wheeling and dealing, and loved it! Gary never met a stranger and made friends everywhere he went. He always had a story to tell that would have you mesmerize, only to find out later it was B.S. (LOL). He could make you believe the moon was made of cheese, and he’d promise you a slice. When his kids where younger, he had them believing there was a mountain made of hard rock candy, and some day he’d take them there to hammer off a piece. Gary had a long good life, and lived it with a great sense of humor, so please don’t mourn his death; like his brother John said, even Elvis couldn’t escape it. He will be deeply missed, but never forgotten. We love you Daddy.
Gary is survived by his children: Shauna, Sharleen, Jan, David, Mary Sue, Joe Bill, Dimpsey, Tommy and Chancey; grandchildren: Enough to fill a school bus and take them to Texas! He lost track of names, but they all know, they are his, Suga's and Pards; siblings: Dimpsey, Richard, Bob and sister Sue.
Preceded in death by his daughter JoLynn, brothers: Paul, Doug, John - sisters: Imogene and Dorthy.
Graveside service to be announced in Gilmer, Texas.
