

Jack Boyd Pickering passed away peacefully at home on the evening of May 27, 2025, after a short but courageous battle with bladder cancer. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Boyd’s greatest joy was his family. He is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Connie Pickering, and his four children: Michele Beesley, Jack Christopher Pickering (Suzanne Pickering), Kathleen Overfield (Scott Overfield), and Justin Pickering (Brittany Pickering). Boyd was a cherished grandfather to 13 grandchildren and a proud great-grandfather to eight. He also leaves behind his sister, Diane Dowd, and his brother, Bruce Pickering.
Boyd was preceded in death by his father, Jack Arthur Pickering; his mother, Betty Pickering; his younger sister, Judy Pickering Bailey; and Baby Jean Pickering.
Boyd proudly served his country, retiring as a Senior Master Sergeant and dedicating his life to service in the Marine Corps, Air Force, and Naval Reserves. His military career took him across the world, with deployments in Vietnam; Okinawa, Japan; New Zealand; and Kodiak, Alaska. His dedication to protecting and defending his nation was a testament to his strength and perseverance.
Beyond his military service, Boyd pursued many passions that brought joy and camaraderie into his life. He loved hunting with his brother, sons, grandsons, and friends, cherishing the shared experiences and time outdoors. As Vice President of the Utah Gold Prospecting Association, he explored the land with a spirit of adventure and discovery. He was also a member of the Mountain Men of the Wasatch Black Powder Club, celebrating history and tradition. Boyd found joy in the simple pleasures of life, whether golfing, hunting or creating unforgettable memories with his family. His warmth, generosity and unwavering love will live on in the hearts of those who knew him.
A viewing will be held at Valley View Mortuary, located at 4335 West 4100 South, West Valley City, UT, on June 7, 2025, from 3:00 PM to 7 PM, where loved ones can gather to honor his memory.
