June 3, 1999 – September 11, 2014
Jake Crookston, age 15, passed away on September 11, 2014 in Colorado Springs. He was a sophomore at Doherty High School. He was a loving son, brother, uncle, grandson, nephew, cousin and friend. Jake was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Jacob Milo Crookston was born on June 3, 1999 in Ft. Riley, Kansas. He was always a great student. He enjoyed learning about war history and figuring out how things worked, in general. Being a military family, Jake had grown up moving around. He lived in Kansas, Georgia, Colorado, and Utah.
Growing up, Jake had a love for the outdoors and could always be found climbing trees! He also had a great passion for building anything… Zip lines, parachutes, and hammocks to name a few things.
Jake was a Red Belt in mixed martial arts, loved Parkour, and having a traditional Sunday with eating nachos and watching a movie. He loved The Big Bang Theory, Star Wars, pizza and had his own forge in the backyard.
Jake had a very quiet way about him, but was at his best when he was with his family. He loved to travel to Bear Lake and Newport Beach with his cousins. Jake had a deep love for music and really enjoyed his parents' old school 80's Rock. He adored his nephew and twin nieces and was so cute with them.
Jake was very proud of his Dad and the fact that his Dad was a soldier. He had planned on following his Hero's footsteps.
Jake is survived by his parents, SFC K. Scott and Shelle Crookston of Colorado Springs, Colorado; his sister: Kaylee Garcia and her husband, Gus Garcia of Orem, and their three children: Beckham, Paisley, and Sophie. Also surviving is his big brother: Trevor Crookston of St. George, Utah. He also has his grandparents: Ken and Jan Crookston of West Valley, Utah; Milo and Nancy Tracey of St. George, Utah; Karen Haverland of Northfield, New Jersey and Sandy Baldwin of British Columbia, Canada. He also has many aunts, and uncles, and cousins.
