

James Albert Smith (Jim), cherished husband, devoted father, loving grandfather, and beloved friend of his community, passed away at the age of 72 at LDS Hospital on the evening of Sunday, May 26th, 2024. He was born on August 24th, 1951, in Fort Collins, Colorado
During his seven-year service in the U.S. Navy he met Ann. Jim and Ann were married in the Salt Lake City Temple on October 21st, 1976. Ann was Jim’s sweetheart, and he surprised her with yellow roses and thoughtful expressions of his love as often as he could.
At the age of 14, Jim joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and remained a faithful member throughout his life. He loved camping and cooking Dutch oven meals with the church's youth for many years.
For over 50 years, Jim played the role of Santa Claus, bringing joy to countless children during the holiday season. Jim had a passion for singing, participating in choirs, and performing in stake musicals. His smile and warm personality could brighten dark days, and he had a knack for making everyone around him smile and laugh. He had a very generous spirit, always extending a helping hand to anyone in need.
Jim is survived by his wife, Ann Smith; his children, Angela Smith, Melanie Smith, Alisa Sanders (James), and Megan Smith; his grandchildren, Jackson Sanders (17), Cooper Sanders (14), and Riley Sanders (12) Ann’s Siblings: Lee Swenson (Valerie), Greg Swenson (Patty), Laurie Hathaway (Ben) Jim’s Siblings: Carol Buckley (John), Karen James, Chuck Williams, Don Smith (Raeann) and Jerry Smith (Donna), as well as many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Chester and Mary Smith; Reed and Kathryn Johnson; and siblings, Julie Johnson and Tom Smith.
Jim will be dearly missed by all who knew him, but his memory will live on in the hearts of those he touched with his kindness and love.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 1st, at 11:00 am at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 4145 S 3920 W West Valley City, UT 84120

A viewing will be held at Valley View Funeral Home, 4335 W 4100 S West Valley City, UT on Friday, May 31st, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm and one hour before Funeral Services at 10:00 am at The Church.
Interment will follow funeral services at Valley View Memorial Park.
