Joan was born on March 29, 1937 in Salt Lake City to Arthur Eldon Allen and Viola May Samuelson. She attended Granite, Olympus, and Murray High Schools and later attended Brigham Young University.
On November 30, 1956 she married the love of her life, Calvin Dwain Hall of Vernal, Utah in the Salt Lake Temple. Joan was a lifetime member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and held many callings in the Primary and Relief Society where she shared her talents and her love for music. Throughout her life she maintained hope and clarity and taught her children an eternal perspective.
When Joan was just 16 she traveled from Salt Lake to Maeser, Utah with her best friend Rosemary Kimball, to meet Rosemary’s cute cousin Dwain Hall. Upon meeting this beautiful blonde girl from the city, Dwain wasted no time in asking her if she wouldn’t like to go magpie hunting with him behind his family’s home and pasture. Joan declined the outing, but could not resist his rugged good looks and country charm. They dated, long distance, for nearly four years, before sealing the deal for eternity.
Joan loved to sing and had a beautiful Soprano voice. She sang with the Treble Clefs singing group for several years and stood out at any event she attended. She dreamed of having a singing career but largely gave that up to raise a family of six children, and filled her home with love, laughter and music.
Joan will always be remembered for her delicious meals and desserts and for her ability to create an entire nutritious meal from a few modest ingredients. She loved to draw and to paint and was an accomplished artist. She was always known for her sparkling smile, her cheerful disposition and positive optimism despite her own difficulties and challenges. She had a great love for the scriptures, especially for The Book of Mormon, which she read well over one hundred times. She was always so sweet to her husband and so supportive of him, nursing him through 25 years of illness before his passing. Together they made a powerful duo. Their family and faith were always their priority.
Joan is survived by six children, David ( Doryanne ) Hall, Calene ( Brian ) Pearson, Darren ( Cheryl ) Hall, Todd ( Amy ) Hall, Kevin ( Cindy ) Hall and Robin ( Sam ) Ferrin, younger brother Gary Allen, 17 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Calvin Dwain Hall, brother Eldon Ray Allen, infant son Logan Barrett Hall, and grandson Tanner Morgan Hall.
