Joan Elaine Fostveit Kimmel –March 9, 1943 to January 18, 2015, was called by her heavenly Father and passed away peacefully at home after a long battle with health issues. Joan was one of two daughters of Ardel and Elaine Fostveit, born in Ishpeming, Michigan, graduated from Ishpeming High in 1961. After high school, Joan married Ronald Roy Kimmel and had two children, Ronald Roy (Buddy) Kimmel, Jr. and Connie Lee Kimmel. Joan’s parents had moved to Utah in 1961 and after her divorce from Ronald in 1980, Joan permanently moved to Utah.
During Joan’s youth you could find her taking part in some sort of winter sport activity, spending hours outside skiing, skating, and time at her Uncle’s camps. One of Joan’s fondest getaways was Presque Isle, on Lake Superior. She would spend endless hours with friends and family enjoying a meal of mouthwatering Cornish Pasty’s, a U.P. favorite (Upper Peninsula).
During her married years, her family lived in many areas in the US and in Germany due to her husband’s military career. This put the travel bug in Joan; hence she did a lot of traveling in her adult life with many friends. She was always fascinated with the medical industry. At the age of 16 she got a job at Bell Memorial Hospital as a Candy Striper. She continued to work in the medical field as a medical assistant until she retired. Joan was an avid reader, loved dancing, theater productions, enjoyed going out with friends and meeting new people. She always left them with a smile on their face. Joan had a positive attitude on life.
Joan is preceded in death by her son and her parents. Survived by her daughter Connie of Kearns, Utah, Sister, Clarice Williams of West Valley, Utah and nieces, great nieces and nephews, many aunts, uncles and cousins.
