Jody’s heart belonged to the love of his life, Regina Hatathlie. Their song, "Neon Moon" by Brooks & Dunn, became the soundtrack of their relationship, which began when they met at the ages of 15 and 16. Though they separated for a time, their love eventually brought them back together and helped them raise a family. Their bond also led to the births of Marylyn and Jr., and they shared 36 years of love, growth, and cherished memories together.
Jody was a proud father to Kalyn (Kamron) Jensen, Ralyn (Alex) Montoya, Marylyn Diaz, and Jody (Perla) Diaz Jr. He was also a devoted grandfather to his beloved grandchildren: Kenzley*, A’Jay, Chloe, River and bonus grandkids: Rayn and Aria.
Jody’s kind and giving heart was one of his most cherished qualities. He gave without hesitation, whether to those he loved or to strangers in need of hope. Jody had a unique ability to share his love with everyone he encountered, no matter how long or brief their connection. He often said, "If I have it, I will give it."
Jody had a wide range of interests that brought him joy, many of which he shared with Gina by his side. He had a deep love for music, especially bands like AC/DC, Dokken and Godsmack. Whether attending live concerts or watching performances on DVDs. He enjoyed blasting his music through his stereo at home. Watches and jewelry were other passions and took pride in his hair- making sure to never leave the house without his hairbrush. Fishing, yard work, and gardening were some of his favorite activities. Above all, he treasured spending time with his grandchildren—whether attending University of Utah basketball games, school programs, kids’ games, awards, or simply sneaking them his favorite candy. Jody also enjoyed watching wrestling, boxing, UFC, movies like Godzilla and spending time with his beloved animals, including his dogs, cats, and other animals through the years.
Jody worked for 23 years at Alsco, where he created lasting memories with coworkers and friends. He deeply valued family, gatherings, reunions, and visits where he always cherished the moments spent with his loved ones.
