

He was born April 25, 1944 in Salt Lake City, Utah to William B. and Vica Maie Fellows Brooks. Joe was a graduate of Granger High School. He served an LDS mission to the Southern Gulf States. He married Sherrie Backman on May 4, 1968. She preceded him in death on April 17, 1998. He married Nancy Friel Brooks on October 7, 1999.
Joe was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He loved to serve and enjoyed his time in the Bishopric and as Scout Master. He truly loved ”the boys”. He also loved the SLCC family and retired after 32 years due to health issues. Every yard he touched ended up looking like a beautiful park. There were never too many flowers in Joe’s world. He never met a child that did not instantly become his friend. Joe will be remembered for his big smile, contagious laugh, booming voice and generous service to all.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy F. Brooks, his daughter Gina (Andy) Salmon and grandsons Justin Brooks and Hayden Salmon, his son Bradley Brooks, his brother Russel (Carolyn) Brooks, his sister Janet Allen. Also Nancy’s children: Angela (Kyle) Holden, Colby (Aniko) Brewer and grandchildren Hannah, Burke, Lucza and Zoe and his adopted Friel and Coons families. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and two brothers.
A viewing will be held Sunday, December 18, 2016 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.at Valley View Funeral Home, 4335 West 4100 South, West Valley City, UT. Funeral services will be held Monday, December 19, 2016 at 12:00 p.m. at the Jordan North Ward, 4270 S Falcon Street (4145 W.) West Valley City, UT. A viewing will be held prior to the funeral services from 11:00a.m. to 11:45 a.m. . Interment will be at Valley View Memorial Park.
