Joyce Oman Burton, our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, friend, and eternal companion to Willard, was reunited with her son Bradley; her loving parents, Clarence and Hannah Oman; and her brothers, Clair and Dirk, on April 30, 2026. Joyce passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family.
Joyce was born on August 9, 1941, in Boneta, Utah. She was the oldest of six children: Bonnie, Ralph, Clair, Phil, and Dirk. She attended Altamont High School, where she participated in Pep Club and cheerleading, served as president of the school newspaper, and was manager of the yearbook staff. Joyce attended Snow College and later graduated from BYU with a Bachelor of Science degree.
Joyce married the love of her life, Willard Burton, for time and all eternity on January 31, 1964, in the Salt Lake City Temple. They were blessed with six children, 19 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren. Joyce’s greatest treasure was her family.
Joyce had many passions that enriched her life. Gardening was a big part of her life, and each year she spent countless hours tending to her flowers. She and Willard took great pride in their vegetable garden, which they shared with family and friends. Joyce was a true artist when it came to sewing, and she loved quilting. She made a special quilt for each grandchild. Joyce also spent hours making scrapbooks for her children and grandchildren. A passion she shared with her mother was collecting coins. Joyce was a wonderful baker; at Thanksgiving, she made at least 12 different flavors of pies. She also made delicious rolls, cookies, and custom birthday cakes for her children.
Joyce was a fantastic mother who supported her children in all of their countless activities and sporting events, and this continued with her grandchildren. She loved spending time with them. For many years, she planned a “Grandma’s Week.” Joyce and Willard would organize a week of fun field trip adventures while teaching life skills such as gardening, sewing, and crafting. It was always a special bonding time for the cousins, and they would end the week with a trip to the pool.
A devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Joyce lived her faith fully. She enjoyed many church callings and loved sharing her testimony. She was always willing to serve and help others. She and Willard served a senior mission in Wisconsin, sharing their love of the gospel. Joyce loved the temple and served as a dedicated temple worker with Willard for many years.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Hannah Oman; her brothers, Clair and Dirk; and her son, Bradley (Karen).
