Joyce Marie Eckman Snider

Joyce Marie Snider, our precious mom, wife, grandma and auntie, passed away peacefully at her home in Mesquite, Nevada on October 6, 2021. She was born in Murray, Utah on July 24, 1943. The youngest and last of the nine children born to Roy Waldamer Eckman and Gladys Treganna Dayton Eckman. Growing up, she always believed Utah’s Pioneer Day parade was just for her.

She was first married in 1961 to Patrick Alan Shimmin in the Salt Lake City Temple, later divorced. In 1979 she married to William Jay Muzzy in Norwalk, California, also divorced. She married Quinn Schoenfeld in 1992 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Though they were later divorced, they remained close friends and she spent time visiting and assisting in his care.

Her final marriage was to John Howard Snider in 2006 in Preston, Idaho. They were married nearly 15 years until her death. Together, they enjoyed their retirement years traveling, going on trail rides, visiting her grandkids and summers at their cabin at Panguitch Lake, Utah. They made many friends together.

Joyce worked many different jobs throughout her life. From fast food to secretarial. She was once a factory worker for Mattel toys. While working for Ford Motor Company she installed starter motors on their assembly line in Pico Rivera, CA. When she returned to Utah, she worked several years for Ernst Home Center. Her final job became a career. She was hired by the Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Office, working proudly for 21 years until retiring in 2007.

If she knew you for very long, she loved you and considered you family. She had a silly sense of humor. She could always have a laugh. She was adorable, kind and forgiving. She would sincerely wish for you to be happy. She embraced social media, where she always wanted you to know she visited and checked up on you. We are sincerely grateful she was able to attend an Eckman family reunion just last June.

She is survived by her husband John Howard Snider. Her four children, Tiffany Suzanne Clontz, Torrance Alan Shimmin, Tamara Marie West, Tracy Ann Houston (Shane). Her six grandchildren, James Gregory West (Megan), Bethany Marie Shearon, Torrie Patrice Clontz (Chris), Brian Anthony West, Tyler Burton Clontz, Sr. (Ciera), and Dylan Shimmin. Eight great grandchildren, Philip Joseph Shearon, Jr., Scott Steven Shearon, James Parker West, Charles Mason West, Noelle Marie Gordon, Vivian Maxine West, Wyatt Paul West and Tyler Burton “TJ” Clontz, Jr. Also, her protective puppy dog Joey. Many nieces, nephews and friends. All whom she loved with all of her heart.

Her family welcomes you to attend her visitation and viewing on Thursday, October 14, from 6pm to 8pm, service on Friday, October 15, at 11am with a visitation and viewing one hour prior. All will be held at Valley View Memorial Park, 4335 W 4100 S, West Valley, Utah.
