Juanita Thurber

1935 ~ 2012

Juanita Mascarenas Thurber, age 76, passed away May 7, 2012 at home surrounded by her loving family.

Juanita was born June 24, 1935 in Velarde, New Mexico to Eduardo Valdez and Eliziada Valdez. She attended school in New Mexico. Juanita married Victor Mascarenas; he later passed away. She married Leon Thurber, they later divorced. Mom loved fishing, camping and doing word search puzzles. She enjoyed being outside working in her yard; but most importantly spending time with her family and grandchildren. She enjoyed listening to Mexican and Gospel music. She is survived by her children, George (Doris) Mascarenas, Harold Mascarenas, Aaron Mascarenas and Naomi (Roberto) Reyes; sisters, Cordelia (Ramon) Casillas, Rose (Leon) Klick, Lourdes Acuna and Julie (Elias) Padilla; brother, Danny Valdez; 8 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. Juanita is preceded in death by her husband, parents, sister and brother. The family would like to thank Tammy from Vista Hospice for her loving care of their Mother.

Funeral Services for Juanita will be held Saturday, May 12, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the Mt. Calvary Family Worship Center at 3050 South 3200 West. The family will receive friends at a Visitation from 6 until 8 p.m. on Friday evening at the Worship Center, and one hour prior to the service on Saturday. Interment: Valley View Memorial Park.
