Kay Reed Bendixsen, 95, died on December 1, 2014 at home.
He was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on October 23, 1919 to Carl Stephen Bendixsen and Mary Caroline Nokes. He grew up in the Salt Lake Valley and graduated from West High School. He joined the U. S. Marine Corps in 1941 and served in the Pacific Islands, during WWII, until 1945. After the war, he served a LDS mission in eastern Canada. He married Blanche Campbell on November 22, 1948 in the Logan Temple. They had four daughters. She died on September 27, 1981. He then married Shona Gill on April 30, 1983, whom he met while serving in the Marine Corps and was stationed in New Zealand.
Kay’s greatest love and joy was his family. He brought them up with a love for nature. He was always teaching his daughters and later his grandchildren about the beauty around them. He enjoyed teaching, to all who would listen, the names of trees, plants and flowers.
He had a great sense of humor and liked to tell corny jokes and tease everyone.
Kay is survived by his wife, Shona; his daughters Sylvia (Randy), Shona (Kendall), Mary Kaye (Gary), and Janel (Glenn-deceased). New Zealand step-children: Sue (Mike), David (Lynne), Richard (Karen) and Brenda (John). He has 31 grandchildren and 48 great grandchildren we all will miss him dearly.
His family would like to thank Valeo Home Health Service and Hospice for their loving care these past few months.
In lieu of flowers please donate to Huntsman Cancer Institute or Primary Children’s Hospital.
Funeral services will be held Saturday December 6, 11:00 a.m. at the Harvest Park Ward Chapel
3671 South Oldham (4180 West) at 11:00 a.m. with a viewing from 9:45-10:45 prior to the funeral.
