Raised in El Segundo, California, Larry developed a love for sports early in life. During high school, he ran track and played baseball with skills taught to him by his mother.
An accomplished athlete, Larry attended Brigham Young University, where he ran track on scholarship alongside his best friend, Rex Wood, and also played rugby. His time at BYU became life-changing when he embraced the gospel and was baptized into The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints by Rex. In 1967, Larry married his eternal companion, Janis, in the Los Angeles Temple.
Throughout his life, Larry gave generously of his time to the youth. He loved coaching soccer for all his children and spent countless hours with the young men, taking them on 50-mile hikes.
Larry was a man who loved deeply; he cherished his family, cheered passionately for football (especially his beloved BYU Cougars), and found peace and quiet joy with a fishing pole in hand. But Larry’s true superpower was making people smile. He had a dry, mischievous sense of humor that kept everyone guessing. You never knew if he was spinning a tale or telling the truth, and that famous smirk of his kept us all wondering what he was hiding behind it.
Larry’s love continues through his surviving family: his loving wife of nearly six decades, Janis; his children, Ryan (Jennifer), Shannon (Dustin), Cashell, Tyson (Tammy), and Cullen (Tiffany); his daughter-in-law, Autumn; his brother, Gary; his sister, Colleen; 16 grandchildren; and 4 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Hazel, and his sons, Aaron and Zane, who now welcome him home.
