Our patriarch, our rock, our moral center has left us to join Joyce, our matriarch on Saturday, July 24, 2021 surrounded by family. Lenard was an inspiration to our family and to many that met him. Lenard was proud to have served in the U.S. Army alongside his brothers. He later made the Veteran’s Administration his career until retirement. Lenard and Joyce loved children and provided a safe and healthy place for them to thrive. He was a surrogate dad and granddad to many. He was an example of morality and integrity. His last years were spent in the care of his daughter Lenna and son-in-law Jim. He was surrounded by his great grandchildren who loved great grandpa and tucked him in to sleep each night. We grieve for ourselves but are so happy that he and Joyce, after 59 years of marriage, are reunited at last.
Lenard was born February 22, 1928 to Lewis Clarence and Caroline (Carrie) Hill Betts. He married Joyce Sweat on November 10, 1961. They were inseparable up until her death on August 3, 2018.
He is survived by his children, Don (Ann) Betts, Doug Betts, and Lenna (James) Tallman; grandchildren, Dawn, Carrie, Holly, Matthew, Jacob, Tiana, Braydon, and Starr; great-grandsons; Cameron and Marshal. He is also survived by sister, Clara Huxford, Roosevelt, UT and brother Kennith (Sylvia) Betts, Eureka, CA.
Preceded in death by Joyce, his parents (Clare and Carrie) and siblings, Ellen Milligan, Fern Milligan, Ray Betts, Lucille Haws, Ralph Betts, Dean Betts, Glen Betts and Glenna Murray.
The family would like to thank Intermountain Hospice (mostly Cheryl, Ruth and Rob) for their care and support for the past 9+ months.
