Luna passed away peacefully on February 5, 2023, at the age of 85, at Rocky Mountain Care Hunter Hollow Skilled Nursing Facility in West Valley City, Utah. Ningning was born on January 13, 1938 in Guimba Nueva Ecija, Philippines to Cornelio Dubal Batangan and Leonora Tabangay Batangan. She was the 5th of 8 children.
Previously departed loved ones included her father, Cornelio, her mother, Leonora, and her brothers Oscar, Modesto, Aznar, Bartolome, and Victor.
She is survived by her sisters Socorro and Luz, her sister-in-laws, brother-in-law, as well as beloved cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
Ningning is a lady with determination and she is an achiever. She started her career as a working student until she became an accountant in the Philippines. She moved to Toronto, Canada in 1965 to further her career. A bigger opportunity in New York however prod her to move again in 1969. She worked at American Express in NY and when Amex moved their Travelers Checks Division to Salt Lake City, Utah in 1981, Ningning was asked to be a part of that team. She was with Amex until she retired in Nov. 17, 2007 and was given an award for her excellent services.
For Ningning, her family is her life. She had a very simple living, devoid of luxury but she will not hesitate to provide help to any family member, be it for their education or for any financial help needed for anything. She sacrificed much of herself but nevertheless finds great love and joy in helping.
Ningning stayed single and she preferred it that way as she was focused on her career and on helping her family, friends and the needy. She tirelessly served her parish at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in West Valley City. She was a member of the Legion of Mary, Mary’s Helpers, Council of Catholic Women and Prison Ministry at the Juvenile Detention Center. Luna was also a Eucharistic minister to the home bound, member of the parish choir, a soup kitchen volunteer at St. Vincent de Paul Center, and part of the funeral service ministry in the parish.
She was given the Parish Woman of the Year Award in 2018 for all her devoted work for the community.
We will miss you Ningning. Your infectious laugh, your unselfish love and your presence in our lives. We love you very much and you will live in our hearts forever.
A funeral service mass is scheduled for 11 am on Friday, February 17, 2023 at the Saint Vincent DePaul Catholic Church, 1375 East Spring Lane Holladay Utah 84117.
