1957 – 2018
Our loving Husband, Father, and Papa passed away suddenly at the age of 60. Marc was born November 1957 to David and Irene Childs in Salt Lake City, UT. As the sixth child of eight, with five brothers and two sisters, he had a wonderful childhood exploring the city on his bike.
He had a great interest in, and a natural talent for anything mechanical, even as a young child. As he grew older he could be found taking apart and fixing bicycles, lawn mowers, and cars. His insight and intuitive knowledge about how things worked and what to do to make a machine operate was abundant. No matter if it was family, friend, or neighbor, if anyone needed something fixed he was willing and able to help; whether it was an appliance that needed to be fixed or a mechanical, plumbing, or welding issue.
Marc graduated from South High School and later completed HVAC and welding certifications from Salt Lake Community College. With his vast knowledge, he worked for nearly 40 years for the Newspaper Agency Corporation as an operator and machinist. His love of learning continued all throughout his life and he had a wealth of knowledge that he willingly shared with anyone who would listen and had “a lot” of time to do so. Marc had an opinion on everything and was always willing to share it. He always tried to help his family and others learn how to be financially secure, to remember how important family is, and to do what is right for the sake of it being right. He enjoyed learning about history, especially regarding war, military, or guns.
He married Bridget Colleen Kelly in 1979 and they built a wonderful life together with their four children - camping, playing sports, traveling, and trying to make the most of life. Marc adored his family more than anything and was always finding ways to have family dinners and activities with them. He loved the outdoors, especially camping, hunting, and shooting guns. He enjoyed training his dogs and could always be found tinkering in the basement reloading bullets or researching everything related to his hobbies.
Marc was always the first to lighten a situation with a good joke and teasing was a given if he was around. He loved to tell stories that kept everyone laughing and smiling.
He is survived by his wife, Bridget; children Carla (Casey) Jones, Charleen (Alex) Munro, Aaron (LauraMichele) Childs, and Colette (Doug) Bounds; and 12 grandchildren. He was Preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and one grandson.
