1930 – 2015
Marcella Ann (Marcie) Zimmer Keating beloved mother, grandmother, sister and friend passed away peacefully on December 24, 2015 surrounded by her family. She was born on July 16, 1930; the ninth of thirteen children to George and Alma Zimmer, in Montrose, South Dakota. On April 5, 1951 she married Pat Keating, the boy next door, and together they had eight children.
Marcie, Pat, and their family lived in South Dakota, until 1967 when they relocated to Granger, Utah. They were married for 45 years before Pat’s death in 1996. Marcie was a devoted wife and mother who ensured the household was running smoothly, at least as smoothly as it could with that many kids! She was a great mom that raised her children to be loyal, responsible, respectful, hard-working and tolerant of others. She was a devout member of the Catholic Church and strong in her faith. People marveled at mom’s incredible memory because she never forgot anything, no matter how trivial it seemed. She really enjoyed people and loved nothing better than visiting with family and friends. Mom’s interests throughout the years included, reading, playing cards, baking (killer cinnamon rolls), traveling, her bible study group and doing volunteer work.
Marcie was extremely proud of her children and loved talking about them to anyone who would listen (friends, store clerks, telemarketers, etc). She was a kind loving and gracious woman; never wanting to put people out. Our mom always loved dancing; and although she will be greatly missed, we are happy to know she is dancing with our Dad, once again.
Marcie was proceeded in death by her husband Pat Keating, her son-in-law Charlie Fratto, her parents, her brothers Walter, Leroy, Harold, Francis, Paul and her sister Mary. She is survived by her children Lynn Fratto (Nick Floros), Valerie (John) Paras, Mike (Diane) Keating, Steve (Jeanette) Keating, Craig (Sheila) Keating, Kathy (Mike) Hewitt, John (Tonia) Keating, and Patrick (Diana) Keating. She also leaves behind 20 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; brothers, Gene, Stan and Tom; and sisters, Margaret, Rita and Lois.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, January 9, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church, 7405 S. Redwood Road, West Jordan, Utah. The family will receive friends on Friday evening from 5:30 - 8:00 p.m. at the church with a Vigil Service starting at 7:00 p.m. Interment will be at Valley View Memorial Park, 4400 W. 4100 So., West Valley City, Utah.
Special thanks to the staff at Legacy House and Canyons Hospice, and especially to Mary Fratto, mom’s nurse and friend for many years. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to St. Vincent’s de Paul Soup Kitchen, 437 W. 200 S. SLC, Utah 84104 or St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church.
