Marian L. Young

Marian LaVon Steele Young 86, passed away peacefully in her home on Thursday July 28, 2022. She was thoughtful, kind, creative, ambitious, and always wanting to be on the go. It was hard and frustrating for her to have to slow down. She loved painting ceramics and always shared her creative projects with all for Christmas gifts. She loved trips to Walmart, Cindy's Ceramic Shop, Wendover, Blackhawk and anywhere else she could spend money. She also loved playing 5 Crowns on Sunday nights with her daughters, and playing Hand and Foot with her brother on Wednesday afternoon. There were her favorite card games.

She was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on March 19, 1936 to Earnest and Edith Steele. She was the oldest of four children. She married Melvin J. Young on June 23, 1952 in Salt Lake City, Utah. They lived in West Valley City, Utah and Ivins, Utah. She especially loved Ivins because it was close to Mesquite, Nevada. ( She said she was never a gambler, but enjoyed donating her money). They raised their four children in the home that her husband built for her in Granger, now West Valley City. It was small, but comfortable. Family meant everything to her. She enjoyed Sunday dinners and birthday get togethers with her family. She never forgot the $5.00 for each of her great-grandchildren on their birthdays.

She is survived by her four children: Carolyn (Kevin)Jenkins, Tarolyn (Jim)McFall, Sharon Gerrard, Dennis (Teri)Young. Eleven grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren with one more due in November. She is also survived by her two brothers: Ed Steele and Marvin (Jackie)Steele.

She was proceeded in death by her parents: Earnest and Edith Steele; Sister Marilyn Thornton; Husband Melvin J. Young and grand-daughter Kristi McFall. We can only imagine the joyful reunion they are having.

The family wishes to thank the Hunter 27th ward for their kindness that they have shown towards mom while she lived there. She felt so comfortable, accepted and loved while she lived in their ward. Also the family would like to thank the Kearns Senior Center for their kindness as well. She made many good friends and enjoyed her time there, whether it was with the Red Hats, Ceramics, or just lunch at the center. Also as a family we would like to thank Renew Hospice for their care of mom, as well as us. They were remarkable in their care for mom and very helpful to us as a family.

There will be a visitation on Friday August 12, 2022 at Valley View Funeral Home from 6-8PM. Graveside services will be held at 11AM Saturday, August 13, 2022 at Valley View Memorial Park 4335 W 4100 S West Valley City, UT.
