

Marilyn Velna Politis Sessions, age 84 years, passed away on Thursday, 22 September, 2016 in Murray, Utah. She was born on 23 January, 1932 to Lucas George Politis, Sr. (father) and Velna Talvig Johanne Levorsen (mother) in San Francisco, California.
While growing up in San Francisco, she attended Commerce High School where she graduated in 1949. She was married to her husband, William Melvin Sessions, in her father’s home in San Francisco, California and two weeks later on 6 February, 1952, they were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, for time and all eternity. Throughout her life she served in many callings. She especially loved to teach the Gospel of Jesus Christ and always said that her favorite calling in the church was teaching early morning seminary and then later teaching the Gospel Doctrine class in Sunday School. She was a Family History Missionary with her husband and as a widow served several more Family History Missions. She loved to sing and was often asked to perform the alto solos from Handel’s Messiah. She was an awesome cook and loved to cook for family and friends.
She is survived by her sons, William Melvin Sessions, Jr. and James Martin Sessions and her daughter Jensene Sessions. She is also survived by two brothers, Carl L. Politis and John L. Politis and two sisters Christina L. Politis Reber and Ellene L. Politis Wilson. She is also survived by 17 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband, a daughter Cheryl Sessions Cross and two sons, Gary Michael Sessions and Andrew Mark Sessions. Also preceded in death by her parents and two brothers Lucas George Politis, Jr and George L. Politis.
Services to celebrate her life will be held on Saturday, 1 October, 2016 in the Lee Ward building chapel, located at 3805 South Main Street, Salt Lake City, Utah at 12:30 p.m. The family will receive friends beginning at 11:30 a.m. in the Relief Society Room.
